Preparing for New EU Refrigeration Products Standards & EPREL Requirements

Commercial_Refrigerator

On December 4, 2025, the European Commission launched a new public consultation aimed at updating the energy labelling and ecodesign rules for household and commercial refrigeration appliances. These changes are part of the EU’s broader push for energy efficiency and sustainable product design — and they’re set to have a direct impact on how products are registered in the EPREL database.

The proposed updates include new performance thresholds for energy labels, more stringent ecodesign criteria, and revised definitions to reflect current technologies. Importantly, the consultation also aims to better align the requirements for both domestic and professional appliances, closing long-standing regulatory gaps. For manufacturers and importers, this could mean revisiting your entire compliance approach. Products currently listed in EPREL may need to be retested, relabelled, or updated to meet the upcoming standards.

The consultation period is open through Q1 2026, giving stakeholders a limited window to share feedback and prepare. As your EPREL registration partner, we’re here to help you assess how these changes may affect your product portfolio — and guide you through every update needed inside the EPREL system.

The European Commission has opened a consultation that could impact EPREL registration, ERP requirements, and energy labelling regulations for refrigeration appliances. Read the full text here.
